They worked tirelessly to convince the New York Fashion houses that large size women wanted the same fashionable clothing as smaller sized women. They brought their 20+ years' experience in the fashion business, Albert as a sales representative for clothing brands, and Martha as a buyer for Dayton's. Albert and Martha were trailblazers when they opened the Special Size Shop, in 1974, at a time when Lane Bryant was only other large size women's clothing store in the Twin Cities. Albert "China" Rymanowski, died peacefully at his home he shared with daughter Mary, on Sunday, May 2, 2021, in the care of his daughter and the staff of CHI Health - We Honor Veterans Home Hospice services 10 days after celebrating his 97th birthday with his two sisters Rosalyn Emon and Pauline Paddock (Ron) along with a few of his many nieces and nephews in Minneapolis.Īlbert and his beloved spouse Martha (nee Pendzimas), owned and operated women's clothing stores throughout the Twin Cities: The Sample Mart at 2 locations and the large size women's clothing store, the Special Size Shop, at 4 locations, for 20 years.
